Low Carbon Hoofprint

Traditional breeds such as the Blue Grey tend to be smaller than larger cross-continental breeds of cattle, and as such they eat less and so have relatively lower costs of production and an associated relatively lower carbon hoofprint. Many Blue Grey producers out-winter their herds which means that yet again costs of production and associated energy consumption is lower.

Overall the traditional farming system which sustains the Blue Grey (and Whitebred Shorthorn) is sustainable, in that it is low cost, low carbon hoof print and extensive.
